OGS is a FamilySearch Affiliate Library
The Oregon Genealogical Society is a FamilySearch Affiliate Library, which means you can access online records that are not available from home at our library on one of our patron computers, or bring your laptop to the library. Most records with a camera and triangle icon are accessible at the OGS Library, but some may only be viewable at a FamilySearch Center or the FamilySearch Library.

1:00 pm - Program: Living in a Commune in the USA - Linda Forrest
Was Great-Grandma a Shaker? Communal living experiments have been a recurring part of the American story. In this presentation, we’ll explore the history of communes, or “intentional communities” in the United States: why they formed, how they functioned, and why many ultimately dissolved, yet others endured. These experiments shaped genealogical records and can explain why some ancestors appear to “disappear” or look unusual in traditional sources.
SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS – OGS Annex, 965 Oak Alley, Eugene, OR
Sunday, January 11, 3:00 - 4:00 pm PT
Our December selection was The Hare With the Amber Eyes: A Hidden Inheritance by Edmund de Waal. It is the true story of Edmund, the 5th generation to inherit a collection of 264 wood and ivory carvings, tracing the story of his family through the story of the collection. Once as rich as the Rothschilds, by the end of World War II, nearly all they had left was the collection. We will discuss it at our January meeting and select our next book.
